Smart and user-friendly technology

Free-fall

The windlass releases the rope under controlled resistance, preventing the entire line from spilling out and forming a tangle on the seabed. This gives you faster, more accurate anchoring.

Autostop

With a built-in sensor and brass wire in the line, the windlass automatically stops in rinse position, allowing mud and debris to be washed off, before gently parking the anchor in the bow roller.

Flexible installation and accessories

A complete windlass system includes more than the windlass itself. For correct operation, you'll need an MCU control unit, automatic circuit breaker, control panel, through-hull fitting, rope, and anchor roller.

Sleipner offers a wide range of accessories and options so you can tailor the solution to your boat.

Why pull speed matters? Not just pulling power

Most manufacturers list maximum pulling power. But in real conditions, pulling speed under load is just as important. Especially when you need to move fast.

Imagine leaving an anchorage with waves pushing in from astern. If your windlass is too slow, your boat might drift into rocks or nearby boats. In such conditions, you should avoid using the engine, as the rope or chain could get caught in the propeller. Your bow thruster is often your only tool for side correction.

That’s why pull speed under load is crucial.

High pulling power at low speed is easy to achieve (like driving in first gear), but combining strong pull with fast retrieval requires a well-built gearbox and quality rope drum or chain wheel.

How powerful should your windlass be?

What does windlass installation cost?

Most boats are not pre-fitted for a windlass system. Installation complexity can vary, from simple solutions to more advanced custom setups. A skilled installer can often find a good and swift solution. A clean, reliable installation not only improves anchoring but adds value to your boat.

If you're technically inclined and follow the installation guide closely, you can do it yourself.
